EDTShareTweetShareShare2019 NFL Mock Draft: Buffalo Bills select Ed OliverTroy Taormina-USA TODAY SportsNow that the Detroit Lions have made their selection, it’s time to see what Kent’s pick of Montez Sweat does to affect the rest of the first round in our Pride of Detroit Community Mock.Next on the clock is the Buffalo Bills, who are trying to rebuild with who they hope is their franchise quarterback of the future, Josh Allen. Picking for the Bills is POD commenter, jdpeterson34. With the ninth pick in the POD Community Mock, the Bills have selected Houston defensive tackle Ed Oliver. Here’s jdpeterson’s explanation: “This is the dream scenario for the Bills, who underwhelmed last year after making the playoffs in fairytale fashion in the 2017-2018 season. Many mock drafts have the Bills selecting D.K. Metcalf, wide receiver out of Mississippi, and while the thought of Josh Allen slinging bombs to a burner like Metcalf causes me to salivate, Metcalf just doesn’t have the production to justify being picked at No. 9. Being the fastest player on the field and looking like a Greek god doesn’t mean much if you can’t produce. In terms of production and freakish speed Trey Flowers Jersey , Ed Oliver has both in spades. If Oliver is still on the board in a couple weeks when the Bills are on the clock, general manager Brandon Beane and head coach Sean McDermott will be doing backflips in their war room. He’s arguably the best player in the draft, and he fits a position of need. Ever since Kyle Williams retired after anchoring the Bills’ defensive line as a 3-technique defensive tackle for over a decade, their defense has underperformed. Oliver steps into the perfect fit in Buffalo. As an undersized but stupidly quick defensive tackle, he needs to be in a scheme that allows him to pin his ears back, get upfield, and penetrate the pocket. Enter the Buffalo Bills. Ed Oliver and the Bills’ aggressive 4-3 defense is a match made in heaven, which is why he is their selection at No. 9 in this mock draft.”Track all of the picks in our Community Mock here.Friday open thread: Who needs to break out for the Lions against the 49ers? With the Week 1 embarrassment to the New York Jets on “Monday Night Football” firmly in the rearview, the Lions will pack their bags and head to San Francisco for an afternoon affair with the 49ers.Detroit’s offensive output last week was, well Damon Harrison Jersey , offensive. Matthew Stafford played perhaps the worst game of his professional career, the offensive line wasn’t much better than it was in year’s past, and the supposedly re-tooled run game, yeah, 15 carries for a measly 39 yards. But hey, it’s all in past! Why are your eyes in the front of your head? To look forward. Keep looking forward...“Forward down the field...”Alright, let’s get right into today’s Question of the Day:Who needs to break out for the Lions against the 49ers?After playing just 16 total snaps, and totaling 37 yards on eight touches, rookie Kerryon Johnson needs to be more of a focal point of Detroit’s offensive game plan on Sunday. With veteran T.J. Lang looking less and less likely to play after missing his second straight practice on Thursday with an ailing back, it’s going to be an even more difficult task to expect this Lions offensive line to keep Stafford clean—let alone upright—against this 49ers pass rush.To take the pressure off of Stafford and the passing game Ricky Jean Francois Jersey , Jim Bob Cooter needs to get creative with his play calling, which admittedly might be a tall task for a guy who was apparently having his offense read like a copy of Cat in the Hat last Monday night. And part of that creative has to stem from Kerryon Johnson, the player the Lions traded up in the second round to select in the 2018 NFL Draft. From the eye test alone, it’s clear Johnson is the team’s most explosive running back, capable of working hard for yardage and making an impact in all phases of the game from the running back position. It’s up for Cooter and the Lions coaching staff to give him the platform to break out and keep this Lions offense moving, and the 49ers pass rush wearing itself out on the field.Your turn.Tweets from https://twitter.com/PrideOfDetroit/lists/lions-coverage
