In just a few days Kentrell Brice Jersey White , the Green Bay Packers and other teams will make their choices official and end the months-long speculation about prospects. Draft guru Dan Kadar can also go on his long-awaited vacation to Tahiti, a deserved break from the grind of college tape and player evaluation.In Kadar’s second-to-last 2019 mock draft, he sees the Packers going in familiar and understandable directions with their first-round picks.While tight ends rarely justify such an early selection, Iowa’s T.J. Hockenson possess rare two-way ability for a prospect at the position and the high-end athletic profile to justify consideration. Furthermore, the value of a “Y” tight end in Matt LaFleur’s offense will make Hockenson a difficult option to refuse should he remain on the board for the Packers.Several offensive-line prospects fit the Packers, but none more so than Boston College’s Chris Lindstrom. Acme Packing Company also selected Lindstrom here in the SB Nation NFL writer mock draft, arguing Lindstrom’s athletic profile, impressive college track record, and schematic fit made him a strong choice for Green Bay: Way back in 2011, current Green Bay Packers’ defensive coordinator Mike Pettine was the defensive coordinator for the New York Jets under Rex Ryan. 2011 was a turbulent season for New York as, following up a near-Super Bowl run in 2010, things fell apart completely. That season is captured wonderfully by Nicholas Dawidoff in his 2013 book, “Collision Low Crossers,” in which Dawidoff was given unprecedented access to the Jets’ coaching staff and players for the entire 2011 season. For a fan of Wisconsin sports, the book turns out to be an extremely interesting read as two of the main characters of the story are Pettine and current Wisconsin Badgers’ defensive coordinator Jim Leonhard, then a safety for the Jets.Every member of the coaching staff is viewed as a workaholic, and no one more than Pettine Womens Josh Jackson Jersey , who is portrayed as a 23-hour-a-day film rat, but the contrast between Pettine and Ryan is stark. Ryan is presented as defensive savant, who only needs to study the tape once to see what others still can’t see after five or six rewatches. Pettine, on the other hand, is a paragon of detail-oriented preparation, someone who broke into the league as an underpaid technology-forward tape watcher for the Ravens (while secretly cashing out his 401K in order to hide a substantial pay cut from his then-wife), but who doesn’t see the game at the same level as Ryan. Ryan is Mozart, Pettine is Salieri. While they work well together if Ryan is leading the way, Ryan can’t help but criticize and interfere when Pettine is given more power.Ryan and Pettine spend much of the book bouncing ideas off of each other, often forgetting whose idea it was in the first place. However, it’s an uneasy relationship, with Ryan giving Pettine more and more responsibility, only to quickly grab it back when he disagrees with something he sees. Everyone in the locker room that year loved Ryan, but not so with Pettine. As a defensive coordinator’s defensive coordinator, he played the role of bad cop to Ryan’s jovial good cop while taking much of the blame (sometimes deservedly) when things went wrong. Pettine wasn’t exactly Ryan’s fall-guy, but it’s unsurprising that the gang split up after the season.Working for guys like Ryan can be difficult. They see and understand things at such a high level compared to almost everyone else, that it’s actually difficult to learn much of use from them. Bill Belichick Womens Clay Matthews Jersey , who is also discussed at length, is similar in that he primarily needs coaches to execute his vision, not necessarily to bring additional ideas to the table. It is, I believe, the chief reason so many of his assistants fail when they leave the Patriots. There is a lot to like about Pettine, as his pro-technology, meticulous nature, and old-school work ethic likely make him an effective, process-oriented coach. That said, I suspect he excels at the tactics of coaching more than the strategy, and some of his defense’s numbers on early downs vs. late downs bears that out. The Packers, while well-prepared on 3rd and long, were eaten alive on first and second down.Likewise, the book makes clear that Ryan really isn’t a great fit as a head-coach. He is too willing to delegate on offense and completely unable to delegate on defense, leading to a lack of overall chemistry and a volatile relationship on both sides of the ball. I’m sure it’s commonplace on NFL teams for offensive and defensive players to have uneasy relationships, but in this instance, Ryan’s lack of offensive direction compounded the problem. I doubt there is a universe where a Mark Sanchez-led offense succeeds Marcedes Lewis Jersey White , but there probably is one where the the Jets’ offense doesn’t repeatedly beat itself, allowing the defense to secure more wins.Everything came to a head for these 2011 Jets in a late-season game against the Giants that saw Sanchez throw the ball 59 times despite being in a close game. With Pettine calling the defense, and Jim Leonhard missing his second game of the season, the Jets’ defense allowed an unusual number of big plays, including a 99-yard touchdown to Victor Cruz. It was the nail in the coffin for the pairing.It’s possible that Pettine will yet succeed, but the book made me long for Ryan as the superior defensive mind. If I were looking for someone to combat the new, innovative offensive minds in the game, it wouldn’t be Pettine, who needs to process a lot of information before cranking out alternative plans. Jim LeonhardPerhaps the biggest surprise of Collision Low Crossers is the juxtaposition of the all-world Darrelle Revis, perhaps the finest corner to ever play the game, with the supremely talented but deeply flawed Antonio Cromartie and the less-talented but hugely important safety Jim Leonhard. Leonhard is the current defensive coordinator for the University of Wisconsin, where he also starred as a ball-hawking safety. In the book, Leonhard is portrayed as a coach-on-the-field, responsible for making the calls for one of the NFL’s best defense while relying on his football intelligence to allow him to compete with faster, stronger players. When Leonhard is lost for the season to a knee injury for the second year in a row, the defense goes to pieces for the second year in a row, as no one behind Leonhard is capable of implementing the defensive calls as well or as quickly. In fact Mike Daniels Jersey , when the coaching staff and front office are seeking his replacement, they don’t focus on forty times or agility drills, but on Wonderlic scores (eventually settling on journeyman safety Gerald Alexander and his solid, if unspectacular 25). Leonhard also comes across as a superb locker room presence, able to laugh at himself in the way confident people can without actually sacrificing any charisma, while diffusing petty squabbles. Everyone on the team seems to respect Leonhard, and he comes across as one of the few people outside or Ryan who really seems to understand the Ryan defense at a deep level. It’s no surprise that Leonhard is a rising star as a college football coach, and if he isn’t a high-level head coach in the next several year, I’ll be shocked. I actually found myself preferring Leonhard to Pettine as a coaching candidate once I was finished reading. “Collision Low Crossers” is fundamentally a book about the Jets, but for any Packers or Badgers fan wondering about their team’s defensive coordinator, you won’t find a more in-depth profile. It’s a pretty breezy read, and it offers plenty of insight into the inner workings of a football team including a few fascinating one-off facts. For instance, the Jets did not value wide receivers in the draft because “they only touch the ball a handful of times per game,” which explains a lot about their offense. They also didn’t trust Penn State pro-day times because the PSU facility sloped noticeably downward, and running drills were all downhill as a result. It’s well worth your time, especially if you happen to be interested in the direction of the defenses for the two highest-profile football teams in the state of Wisconsin.

Then again, it may not have made a difference back then and it may not make a difference now, as it’s incredibly hard to change a player’s habits when he’s this far along in his career. Beasley is still relying on his great first step and the speed rush, almost exclusively, the same way he was in his rookie year. He’s essentially playing a difficult game of chess and utilizing just one piece in that game.Quinn thinks he can change those habits while adding more to Beasley’s game Stitched Mohamed Sanu Jersey , however, and if he can then more power to him.Maybe Beasley has a resurgence and builds on his strong end to the season — where he had 4.0 sacks, two passes defensed, and a fumble recovery for a touchdown, in the final seven games of the season — I’m sure many fans (myself included) would be happy to eat some crow if that happens.But maybe Beasley is exactly who many of us think he is — a guy who had an anomaly season in 2016, and who is now skating by on his 2016 season and top draft status. Look no further than the 14.0 combined sacks in the other three years of his career to build a case for that scenario. If that is indeed the case, then letting him count nearly $13 million against the team’s cap would be completely irresponsible on Dan Quinn and Thomas Dimitroff’s part. Time will tell.

He previously spent four years with the Tennessee Titans as a defensive line coach from 2014-17.Lukabu was the linebackers coach at Mississippi State last season. He has previously served as a defensive quality control coach with the San Francisco 49ers (2016-17) and defensive assistant with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2012-13).Kragthorpe was an offensive coaching analyst at LSU last season after spending the prior two seasons at Utah State.Kovacs was a graduate assistant under Jim Harbaugh at Michigan the last two seasons. Before the draft, Cincinnati seemed to have their five starting linemen in place. Cordy Glenn at left tackle, Clint Boling at left guard, Billy Price in the center and free agent guard John Miller on Price’s right. It also seemed like Bobby Hart would be slated at the right tackle with his three-year contract in place.When the Bengals draft Williams it seemed pretty simple to just put him at right tackle to replace Hart, which still could be the case. However Anthony Munoz Jersey , the Bengals have been pretty clear they feel Williams is a left tackle; whether they mean this year or in the future is unclear.Obviously, the player that could have an impact on the most in Glenn. He doesn’t even seem confident that his spot at left tackle is safe, and thinks a move is very possible.“Nobody knows. I’m pretty sure they have a plan in place,” Glenn told Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com, “They’re probably going to move a couple of guys around and see a couple of different lineups and see what they really have and what the unit to put on the field is.“Some guys can play in a phone booth and some can’t. I can play in a phone booth and I can play on an island,” Glenn said. “[Last time I played inside was] almost 10 years ago. I don’t know (if it’s like riding a bike). It will be interesting though for sure.”Inserting Williams at left tackle sparks plenty of questions. Does Glenn move to guard or right tackle? Is Boling’s spot at left guard in danger as well? The possibilities become pretty endless. We could be looking at a very similar line as last year’s Preston Brown Jersey , but it could be a matter of familiar faces in different places.It is hard to make any predictions at this point, but we should see far more experimentation during training camp and OTAs with where guys are lining up. It could very well go into the preseason. The issue with that of course surrounds the potential cohesion of the unit.You could argue that it will be hard to have a group establish chemistry if they’re still being moved around in the preseason. Last season when the Bengals had roughly the same starting offensive line from the beginning of the preseason (injuries were the only time someone lost their starting job) and easily make the point it is better to find the best five rather than build chemistry with the wrong five.I think everyone can agree, though, that the Bengals need to focus on starting the best players at every position along the offensive line regardless of contract or reputation. It is a fresh start for everyone to compete and get a product on the field that is acceptable. So far, the new coaching staff has all possibilities open in front of them. We can only hope they put a good offensive line together.

Metcalf. Iowa State receiver Hakeem Butler has gotten quite the amount of hype, and in his Junior season with he Cyclones he amassed 60 catches for 1,318 yards (22.0 yards per catch, 3rd in all of college football for 2018) and nine touchdowns.In comparing him, to Brown and Metcalf, Butler is closer to Metcalf. He’s 6’6 and 226 lb, but looks smoother as a receiver than Metcalf. A popular NFL comparison is A.J. Green, a top receiver. Butler is actually slightly taller than Green, and from the looks of it, he has similar vertical prowess. In the Titans’ quest for another receiver to match with Corey Davis and Adam Humphries, getting Hakeem Butler would give them another vertical threat that would set Tennessee up for a solid 1-2-3 combo.NCAAFButler’s technical approach as a route runner was terrific in college. While he doesn’t possess the flashiest routes, he can still create separation, which combined with his frame makes him a favorable target on deep shots.Here, the size matchup doesn’t even come close. Butler feels like a wide receiver version of Rob Gronkowski in a way because of how much of a gargantuan he is compared to the corner he’s facing. And despite his size he moves quite well here, using his left foot to push off and get one step on the corner. His ball security and frame does the rest for a sensational touchdown after the catch.In the second play, Butler’s tight friction allows him to win on the back shoulder pass, as he uses his aggression at the catch point to win the 50/50 shot. His impressive 4.48 40’ time at the Combine is evident here as well with his breakaway speed.If there’s one area Butler has to improve on, it’s his consistency catching the ball. He's been described as a body catcher, and that’s affected his ability to make a few catches as he’s left several on the field.NCAAFThis is a great throw from quarterback Brock Purdy under pressure. Unfortunately, Butler lets it slip through his hands. Butler’s drop concerns don’t come at an alarming rate, but it’s noticeable enough that it will decide if he can be great rather than just good.Still, all things considered I enjoy Hakeem Butler as a prospect. I think he’s a more fleshed out version of D.K. Metcalf, and though I think Marquise Brown is a superior receiver, Butler is certainly a far healthier option. Butler’s one of many selections at varying positions the Titans can consider at pick #19.Butler isn’t without his faults, but he and Corey Davis would make a great starting receiver duo, and combined with Adam Humphries and a few other role receivers, would give the Titans a boost in receiving depth they didn’t have in 2018. I know it’s hard for Seahawks fans to fathom a player with high levels of athletic ability and a physical demeanor suffering a season ending injury while playing a road game in Glendale against the Cardinals, but that is exactly what happened with fourth round tight end Will Dissly. Dissly shined in the Week 1 opener against the Denver Broncos, blocking well against a stellar defensive front seven, while also acting as a dangerous weapon in the passing game. Dissly finished the season with 156 yards on just 8 catches, but three of those catches happened to contribute 105 yards against the Broncos in Week 1. Unfortunately for the Seahawks, that contribution was not enough to overcome the altitude, and the Hawks dropped a game that was within their grasp of winning. In any case, there are obviously more questions than answers regarding Dissly’s recovery from his torn patellar tendon, and it’s just a matter of waiting until training camp to see how his knee is doing and whether he’ll be able to take the field in 2019. Now it’s up to Nick Vannett to take up the much-targeted mantle of TE 1 until Ed Dickson returns, though return is the wrong word since he’s never played a snap for Seattle.Through three games, Dissly had served as Russell Wilson’s most productive target besides Tyler Lockett, ranking second in yards and TDs with 151 and two scores. He’d also won the starting job and validated the Seahawks’ decision to use a fourth-round pick on a supposed blocking tight end.Without him, it’s not clear what production the team will get out of its TE room. It’s not even clear who the room will feature a week or two from now. For as inconvenient as Doug Baldwin’s injury and Brandon Marshall’s numerous drops have been for the offense, losing Dissly might be the biggest setback of the year so far.
